Currently in my daily Bible reading I am in the book of Deuteronomy. I used to view this book as a “rerun” of Genesis, Exodus, Leviticus and Numbers. Even its name means “second law.” Growing up in a home where we weren’t allowed to watch “reruns” on the television I wasn’t very interested in reading this important book of the Bible. This final writing by Moses shares not only the heart of the man who had led Israel for forty years from Egyptian slavery, through the Red Sea, seen God provide water from a rock and provide daily food known as manna, received the Ten Commandments from the very hand of God and even spoke with God “face to face,” Deuteronomy also demonstrates the heart of God for His people of all generations.

God’s heart is that His people would be successful, fruitful, victorious, obedient, prosperous, influential and so much more. God promised to bless His people in all that they were to do, if they listened to what He had to say and were obedient.

God’s desires for His people haven’t changed. His dreams and  desires for us are still greater and grander than our own. He still desires to bless us and prosper us and cause us to be a blessing. Our part is simply to trust and obey. As the old hymn says, “Trust and obey, there is no better way to be happy in Jesus than to TRUST and OBEY.”

Blessings!
