This past week, in our daily Bible reading, we began reading the Book of Acts. Acts is one of the most exciting books of the Bible for me; the Ascension of Jesus, the Great Commission, the Day of Pentecost and the birth of the Church, miracles, church growth, the spread of the gospel, the life and ministry of the Apostle Paul. Reading Acts is like watching an adventure movie.

One of my favorite stories is the account of the healing of the lame man in Acts chapter 3. Peter and John are on their way to church when they encounter this lame man begging for money. This was a very common occurrence, so it was not unusual for Peter and John. It is still a common occurrence in much of the world. In biblical times those with disabilities were dependent on begging to sustain their lives.

Peter’s response was bold and clear as he responded to the man’s plea for money, “Silver and gold I do not have, but I will give you what I have. In the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, get up and walk.” The scriptures tell us that the man did just that; he was instantly healed and not only did he get up and walk, but went into the temple “walking, leaping and praising God.” The man who had never walked is now walking and giving God all the credit for his healing.

What is your response when you encounter someone in need? Peter didn’t have money to give, he didn’t pray an eloquent prayer, he simply offered what he had, the power that comes from having a relationship with Jesus Christ and understanding the power in His name. We have that same power available to us and if we are willing to step out in bold, clear confidence and faith that comes from the Holy Spirit at work in us, we just might see the miraculous happen in our lives and those that God brings across our paths.

Think about it!
