Today as we continue our series, Fruit Filled Living, we will be talking about endurance, the ability to stick with it, not giving up and never quitting. The Bible has much to say about this fruit or quality and the importance of enduring, running well the race set before us. Life is often referred to as a race, a marathon and it is ran over the long haul.

In the sport of Track and Field, there are many races; two that are radically different are the 100 Meter Dash and the Marathon. In the Dash the winner is often proclaimed as the “fastest” as they blaze down the track toward the finish line in just a few seconds. The world record for the 100 Meter Dash is 9.58 seconds by Jamaica’s Usain Bolt. The 100 Meter Dash is one of the most highly anticipated track events. While the other race, the 26.2 mile marathon is about as exciting as watching paint dry. The world class runners complete the marathon in just over two hours, an incredible pace for over twenty-six miles.

Many of us want to run life like a sprint, with a burst of energy and then cross the finish line to victory, but in reality life is much more like a marathon, long, grueling, sometimes tedious and it requires a lot of endurance. Endurance requires that we continue to put one foot in front of the other and keep going. That is the only way we will complete the race.

The writer of Hebrews tells us in the twelfth chapter verse one, “…let us run with endurance the race that is set before us, looking unto Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith,…” Endurance is required of us all, so keep running my friend, even if you are tired and weary don’t stop, don’t give up! Keep running your race!
