In case you haven’t heard, in a recent thunderstorm we apparently experienced a lightening strike at the church. Many of our electronics were impacted, some destroyed, others just damaged. It created a lot of difficulty and stress as devices and systems were restored, repaired or replaced. It caused me to think about the power of electricity and the good as well as the damage it can do. I am thankful that it wasn’t worse, a fire or more damage would have been possible.

As I thought about the “power surge” I thought about the power of the Holy Spirit at work in our lives and the “power” that the Lord has made available to us. This power only does good, not harm and damage like the lightening strike. But when our lives are touched by a “power surge” from the Holy Spirit we will never be the same. We will live differently, worship differently, pray differently,  and share our faith differently.

Anytime there is a thunderstorm there is risk for a lightening strike. Any time we make our hearts and lives available to the Holy Spirit, He is ready to touch us with His special power. I don’t recommend standing outside lifting up a golf club in the midst of a thunderstorm, but maybe lifting our hands in worship to the Lord and experiencing His power flowing through our lives would be a good idea.

Think about it would you? Maybe we all are in need of a “power surge,” one from the Holy Spirit!
