Recently I read Psalm 40 in my daily devotional reading, it is a favorite of mine and is written by King David. He starts out by stating, “I waited patiently for the Lord…” That is almost enough to cause me to stop reading because rarely do I wait patiently. But David goes on to let his readers know that as he waited, the Lord came through for him as God heard his prayers. He says, “He also brought me up out of a horrible pit, out of the miry clay, and set my feet upon a rock, and established my steps.”
Not only did God hear David’s prayer, but God delivered him from the mess he found himself in, placed him on solid ground and provided a secure pathway for him to walk. God wants to deliver you from the “horrible pit” you find yourself in. It doesn’t matter what it is or how you got in the mess you may find yourself in today, God is willing and ready to lift you out of it,, if you call upon Him and are willing to wait for Him. My problem is that I want it done now, in my timing. God has a bigger purpose as He works in my life He is also causing me to grow and mature in Him.
As a result of God’s deliverance work in David’s life, King David has a new song to sing, one that God placed in his heart. It is a song of praise and thanksgiving for God’s mercy and provision. We all have a new song to sing as a result of God’s work in our lives, so don’t hold back, sing it out.
